Golden Gate Midwinter - Race No. 1 ( 5 Races, 1 Throwouts ) on Saturday, November 3, 2001
Race No.1 was a windward - leeward - windward - Finish race that beat up the City Front on what turned out to be a georgeous MId Winter day. After a somewhat mixed up starting sequence, at the suggestion of Arbitrage, the GGYC RC set up a course to keep the fleet from crossing the bay through a thick fog bank. The start was won by Good Timin with Arbitrage and Whisper close behind. However, the experienced hands led the fleet around the course with Good Timin taking first, Arbitrage second and Jitterbug third. Following up were Bald Eagels in fourth, Wind Dance in fifth and Capricorn in sixth. Jose Cuervo, Horse Play, Aquavit and Whisper rounded out the top 10. Nineteen boats showed up at the line and the fleet stayed tightly bunched throughout. After the top three rounded the last leeward mark, the rest of the fleet bunched up in a light air douse bumper car rounding. Experience showed again with last season's winners leading the way. Last year's GGYC winning boat, Aquavit, willstill have a chance to match her outstanding 2000-2001 campaign where she scored 1,1,1,1 to win it all in this five race, one throw out series. The series continues on the first Saturday of December, January, February and March.
