Golden Gate Midwinter - Race No. 4 ( 5 Races, 1 Throwouts ) on Saturday, February 2, 2002
Race No. 4 was a light air start in a big flood going to Mason, Blackaller, A, Blackaller, Finish. The wind died at the first mark forcing the fleet to anchor and wait for the wind to fill in. Whisper executed a nice light air start, perfect anchor set at the mark, and dashed off when the wind filled in to horizon the fleet for her second bullet of the series. Nirvana and Horseplay grabbed second and third with a group of five boats fighting it out for four through eight. Again, Arbitrage showed her consistency with a six and the overall lead with a 1,2,6 (with one throw out). Whisper is second at 1,1,10 followed by Horseplay at 3,4,7, Jose Cuervo at 3,5,7 and Bald Eagles at 4,4,7. Ten boats called it a day when the fleet anchored off Mason and had to wait an hour for the wind to fill. Once it filled, there was a steady 10-12 knot westerly for a nice double sausage up the city front. The final race of the series is Saturday, March 2, 2002.
