A boat weighing is scheduled for Saturday morning, March 26, 2011 at the Berkeley Marine Center. If you want to have your boat weighed, this is the only group session planned for 2011. Dick Horn, US Sailing Certified Measurer, will perform the weighings and Weight Certificates will be issued upon meeting the minimum 8577 lb. standard. The group price is $150/boat for the lifting and weighing.
All J/105s who desire to race in One Design J/105 racing are required to have a valid Weigh Certificate. The savings on this group weighing is well over $100. Any profits made from the weighing goes to the Fleet 1 treasury.
Per Class Rule 5.4.3, any J/105 that has had major damage repair must be reweighed if required by the Class Technical Committee. Also, per new Class Rule 7.3.2 effective FEB1, 2011, any change in ownership requires a boat to be reweighed. If you have any questions and/or are interested in participating, email Pat Benedict at

In the Spring of each year, J World San Francisco hosts a J/105 racing clinic. The intensive two-day format is targeted at getting skippers and crews up to speed for the racing season and get everyone comfortable with numerous aspects of setting up and racing the J/105. If you have new crew and would like them trained, or if you want to get some good tips while chipping the rust off for the upcoming season, this is a great option.
The workshop is all about the mechanics of getting the boat around the course faster. Central topics include the how-and-why of shifting gears from point mode to speed mode. We'll look at the fine points of sail shapes, twist, and rig tuning/dynamics. Spinnaker techniques and sail handling (including sets, gybes, and various takedowns) will be thoroughly discussed and practiced. On board communication and workflow will be emphasized to insure smooth maneuvers while racing.
This year, the clinic will be conducted out of Jack London Square on the weekend of May 22/23. Individual sailors can attend. Owners can bring their own boat and attend for free. Special rates apply for full teams coming together. Space is very limited this year, so contact J/World at 800-910-1101 or visit their website at www.sailing-jworld.com for additional information. |

A boat weigh-in is scheduled for Saturday morning, February 27, 2010 at the Berkeley Marine Center. If you, or a J/105 owner that you know that is not a member of Fleet 1, want to have your boat weighed, this will be the only group session planned for 2010. Dick Horn, US Sailing Certified Measurer, will perform the weighing and Weight Certificates will be issued upon meeting the minimum 8577 lb. standard. The group price is $150/boat for the lifting and weighing.
Here's why all J/105s, that haven't been weighed, should take advantage of this opportunity:
- In order to race in J/105 one-design Fleet/Class races, the boat must have a Weight Certificate.
- The 2010 Fleet 1 race schedule is outstanding and now includes the NOOD Regatta.
- The 2010 Fleet 1 "B" schedule includes fun races and destination finishes.
- The savings on a group weighing is well over $100.
- If your boat is For Sale and a prospect is interested in racing, the boat is immediately ready to race.
- If you beer-can race your boat now, this gives you the opportunity to try a NOOD Regatta or a Vallejo Race.
Here's why a boat that has been weighed should be weighed again:
- If you have added lead weights via a prior weighing and have since added any permanent major equipment (new engine, etc.) or refurbished a deck, etc., you may be able to remove a portion of the lead weights.
- Any profits made from the weigh-in goes to the Fleet 1 Treasury.
