In the Spring of each year, J World San Francisco hosts a J/105 racing clinic. The intensive two-day format is targeted at getting skippers and crews up to speed for the racing season and get everyone comfortable with numerous aspects of setting up and racing the J/105. If you have new crew and would like them trained, or if you want to get some good tips while chipping the rust off for the upcoming season, this is a great option.
The workshop is all about the mechanics of getting the boat around the course faster. Central topics include the how-and-why of shifting gears from point mode to speed mode. We'll look at the fine points of sail shapes, twist, and rig tuning/dynamics. Spinnaker techniques and sail handling (including sets, gybes, and various takedowns) will be thoroughly discussed and practiced. On board communication and workflow will be emphasized to insure smooth maneuvers while racing.
This year, the clinic will be conducted out of Jack London Square on the weekend of May 22/23. Individual sailors can attend. Owners can bring their own boat and attend for free. Special rates apply for full teams coming together. Space is very limited this year, so contact J/World at 800-910-1101 or visit their website at www.sailing-jworld.com for additional information.
